About Pharmassured

Specialist pharmacy care, built around people

Pharmassured Ltd is a GPhC-registered specialist pharmacy based in West Bromwich, West Midlands. Established in 2008, we support patients, families, carers, care homes and other healthcare organisations with safe, reliable medicines services and pharmacist-led clinical care.

We are a closed, distance-selling pharmacy for NHS pharmaceutical services. This means that we provide NHS pharmacy services remotely and do not offer walk-in NHS services from our premises. Our private clinical services are available separately by prior appointment.

Our aim is simple: to make high-quality pharmacy care accessible, personal and dependable.

We offer our services across the West Midlands including Birmingham and Black Country, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, Stoke-on-trent, Cannock, Lichfield, Tamworth, Solihull, Coventry, Leamington and Gloucestershire. We also offer a postal service for products nationwide.

Who we are

Pharmassured was founded by pharmacist and director Raj Chandarana and is led clinically by Superintendent Pharmacist Suraj Khokhari.

Together, our pharmacists have more than 40 years’ experience across community pharmacy, care-home medicines management, hospital pharmacy, general practice, independent prescribing and pharmacy education.

We combine professional expertise with the personal attention of an independent pharmacy. Patients and care providers can speak directly with pharmacists who understand their needs and remain involved in their care.

Our expertise

Pharmassured specialises in elderly care both in the community and in care homes and supported living accommodation. We offer tailored care solutions to the care home and nursing home sector, to those in supported living and with specialist needs, to manage their medicines safely and improve the quality of life of their clients. We also offer private pharmacy services to corporate clients and to several schools in the Birmingham and surrounding areas.

Our care homes are our partners. We specialise in supporting the care sector with all medicine related matters such as supply, administration, MAR charts and ensuring safe medicines management in compliance with the latest CQC and NHS Guidelines. We offer tailored packages featuring electronic Medicines Administration and Recording (MAR) systems fully integrated into the pharmacy systems with barcoded electronic verification to ensure safety and accuracy is linked and traceable from the prescriber to the care home. All medicines supplied are electronically verified to reduce human error and ensure safety for our patients.

  • NHS prescription dispensing and medicines support

  • NHS Pharmacy First consultations provided at a distance

  • Specialist pharmacy services for care homes and supported-living providers

  • Private travel-health consultations and vaccinations

Care-home and supported-living pharmacy services

Care-home pharmacy is a core area of expertise at Pharmassured. We work in partnership with care homes, nursing homes and supported-living services to promote safe, effective and well-organised medicines management.

Our support can include:

  • Prescription dispensing and scheduled medicine supplies

  • Electronic medication administration record systems

  • MAR charts and medicines documentation

  • Barcode-supported checking and verification

  • Regular and urgent delivery arrangements

  • Support with ordering, storage, administration and disposal

  • Medicines-management advice for staff and residents

  • Training, audits and clinical support

  • Liaison with prescribers and other healthcare professionals

Every organisation is different, so we tailor our service around the needs of the people receiving care and the staff supporting them.

NHS Pharmacy First

NHS Pharmacy First replaced and expanded the former Community Pharmacist Consultation Service, commonly known as CPCS.

The service enables pharmacists to assess certain common conditions and, when clinically appropriate, provide advice or NHS-funded treatment without the patient first needing a GP appointment.

As a distance-selling pharmacy, Pharmassured can provide remote Pharmacy First clinical-pathway consultations for:

  • Sinusitis

  • Sore throat

  • Infected insect bites

  • Impetigo

  • Shingles

  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women

Age limits and other clinical eligibility criteria apply. Distance-selling pharmacies cannot provide the acute otitis media or earache pathway because it requires an examination of the ear with an otoscope.

Depending on the part of Pharmacy First being used, patients may contact us directly or be referred by NHS 111, their GP practice, an urgent treatment centre or another authorised NHS provider.

Remote clinical-pathway consultations are conducted using a suitable video consultation when it is safe and clinically appropriate to assess the patient remotely. If the condition cannot be assessed safely at a distance, or if symptoms suggest that further investigation is needed, our pharmacist will explain where to obtain the appropriate care.

Receiving a consultation does not guarantee that medication will be supplied. Treatment decisions are made by the pharmacist following the relevant NHS clinical pathway.

Pharmacy First is not an emergency service. Call NHS 111 for urgent medical advice, or 999 in a medical emergency.

Urgent repeat medicines

The urgent-repeat-medicine service that previously formed part of CPCS is now included within NHS Pharmacy First.

If you have completely run out of a medicine that you receive regularly on repeat prescription, you can request assistance through the NHS 111 online emergency prescription service or by calling 111.

If a referral is sent to Pharmassured, our pharmacist will assess whether an emergency supply is clinically appropriate and legally permitted. Some medicines cannot be supplied through this service.

Other NHS medicines support

We dispense NHS prescriptions received through the Electronic Prescription Service and arrange delivery in accordance with our distance-selling pharmacy service.

Where the relevant eligibility and referral requirements are met, our NHS support also includes:

  • The New Medicine Service, helping eligible patients use newly prescribed medicines safely and effectively

  • The Discharge Medicines Service, supporting patients following medication changes made during a hospital stay

  • Smoking-cessation support for eligible patients referred through participating NHS services

  • Advice about taking, storing and safely disposing of medicines

Please contact us to confirm current availability and the correct access route for a particular service.

Private Clinical Services

Weight-management clinic

Our pharmacist-led weight-management service combines clinical assessment, appropriate treatment options and ongoing monitoring. Medication is only supplied where it is clinically suitable following an individual assessment.

Travel clinic

Our private travel clinic provides itinerary-specific health advice, recommended vaccinations and certification where required. Appointments are available by prior booking at our West Bromwich consultation facility.
