Physiological causes include conditions which affect blood flow such as diabetes, prostate conditions, kidney disease, nerve or brain disorders or blood vessel disorders.

Psychological causes include stress, nervousness, and anxiety. Other causes include tobacco use, alcohol, injuries, or previous surgeries.
