What does the treatment involve?

The treatment involves a cream applied twice a day for at least 8 weeks. The cream is called Vaniqa which contains Eflornithine.

Eflornithine reduces hair growth by preventing the hair follicle from activating enzymes which lead to the formation of hair. Applying the cream twice daily for at least 8 weeks prevents hair regrowth, visibly reducing hair on the face. Treatment must be continued for a minimum of 8-12 weeks and normal hair removal methods can be used until effects are seen. It is possible to use make up along with Vaniqa.

Following the initial 8 weeks, Vaniqa will reduce the appearance of thick coarse hair reducing the need to for regular hair removal and time spent maintaining and concealing facial hair.
How long does the treatment take to work?

The treatment usually takes 8-12 weeks for effects to be seen. Some people may see effects earlier than this after a few weeks of treatment.

Following the initial 8-12 week period, Vaniqa should be continued for the effects to be maintained. Stopping treatment can lead to the reappearance of hair within 8 weeks.
How does the service work?

You will have a private consultation with our pharmacist who can assess your condition and advise if Vaniqa is suitable for you to use. This will involve a short consultation to assess your medical history and ensure suitability and rule out any other causes for hair growth which may need alternate treatment.

If approved, our pharmacist will supply you with a course of Vaniqa to be applied twice a day for a minimum of 8 weeks.
Are there any side-effects?

Most people will not experience any side-effects when using Vaniqa. The most common side-effect is Acne at the site of application which occurs in around 1 in 10 people.

Other less common side-effects include dry skin, redness, stinging, itching and rashes.

As with any drug or cosmetic treatments, some people may be allergic to Vaniqa and treatment should be discontinued and emergency help sought if any severe reactions occur such as facial swelling, swelling of lips, tongue or difficulty breathing.
