Premature ejaculation can often be associated with erectile dysfunction and obtaining treatment for this may help to improve this condition. Other conditions that need investigating by a GP include thyroid problems and diabetes.

Other options include counselling and hypnotherapy to treat any psychological causes of premature ejaculation. This can help to treat causes such as depression, stress, anxiety and relationship problems.

Use of recreational drugs can cause problems in sexual perforamance as can some other drugs.

Alternative treatment options include reducing sensations by using thick condoms or anaesthetic creams such as EMLA
