What is Telfast?
Telfast is a branded medicine containing the antihistamine Fexofenadine. Fexofenadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine for the treatment of allergies such as hayfever, eczema, hives, insect bites and some food allergies.
How it works?
Histamine is released in our bodies in response to certain allergens, such as pollen during the hay fever season, which leads to symptoms of allergies. Fexofenadine prevents the actions of histamine taking effect, providing relief from symptoms such as runny eyes and nose, itching, sneezing and skin rashes.
How effective is Fexofenadine?
Fexofenadine is a very effective, prescription strength treatment. It can start working from 1 hour, with effects lasting upto 24 hours.

Telfast is not recommended during breast-feeding.
Telfast is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, you should check that these tablets do not make you feel sleepy or dizzy before driving or operating machinery.
- you have problems with your liver or kidneys
- you have or ever had heart disease, since this kind of medicine may lead to a fast or irregular heart beat
- you are elderly
Telfast is not recommended during breast-feeding.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Indigestion remedies containing aluminium and magnesium may affect the action of Telfast by lowering the amount of medicinal product absorbed.
It is recommended that you leave about 2 hours between the time that you take Telfast and your indigestion remedy.

The active substance is fexofenadine hydrochloride. Each tablet contains 180 mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride.
The other ingredients are:
Tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinised maize starch, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate.
Film coating: hypromellose, povidone, titanium dioxide (E171), colloidal anhydrous silica, macrogol 400 and iron oxide (E172).

- Antihistamine creams and steroid creams to treat skin symptoms.
- Allergy eye drops
- Allergy testing to determine the cause of allergy symptoms
- Measures to avoid allergens such as keeping doors and windows closed, avoiding going out when pollen is high, using anti-allergy bedding, installing anti-allergy filters in vacuums and air-purifiers.
