What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro KwikPen (tirzepatide) belongs to a group of drugs called Glucose-like-peptide-1 agonists (GLP-1). Mounjaro can be used for diabetes as well as weight loss treatment to regulate hormones in the stomach which control appetite.
How does it works?
Mounjaro mimics natural hormones in your gut which control your appetite and making you feel fuller for longer.
It is effective in aiding weight loss when combined with lifestyle changes such as exercise and a calorie controlled diet.
How effective is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is one of the most effecive treatments to aid weight loss. Studies condected as part of the SURMOUNT clinical trials have shown on average, people lose around 20% of weight over 36 weeks and around 26% of weight over 88 weeks.

Are there any side-effects?
Some people may experience some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea when initially taking Mounjaro. These usually settle after a few weeks of medication.
Side-effects can be reduced by eating smaller meals, reducing intake of sugary food, eating foods higher in protein, having regular meals and increasing fluid intake throughout the day.
Who can use Mounjaro?
Mounjaro can be used by all adults with a BMI greater than 30. Some people with certain risk factors such as diabetes and blood pressure may be able to use Mounjaro with a BMI above 27 and above.

Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection) of your stomach area (abdomen) or upper leg (thigh) or upper arm. You may need help from someone else if you want to inject in your upper arm.
Mounjaro should be injected on the same day each week and can be injected at any time of the day, with or without food,
The starting dose of Mounjaro is 2.5mg injected once a week for at least 4 weeks. Subsequent doses are increaased in steps of 2.5mg until the highest tolerated dose is achieved.

- you have severe problems with food digestion or food remaining in your stomach for longer than normal (including severe gastroparesis).
- you have ever had pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas which may cause severe pain in the stomach and back which does not go away).
- you have a problem with your eyes (diabetic retinopathy or macular oedema).
- you are using a sulphonylurea (another diabetes medicine) or insulin for your diabetes, as low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) can occur.
